The staff plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s technical vision, strategy, and direction, making it essential to find someone who not only possesses the necessary technical skills but also embodies the cultural values that drive the organization forward.

Empower ownership

Empower team members to take full responsibility for their projects. Accountability and ownership ensures that every team member understands the importance of their role and its impact on the team’s success. It encourages creativity, innovation, transparency, communication, and a strong work ethic which is essential for a high-performing team.

Encourage continuous learning and growth

Promote a growth mindset and encourage team members to acquire new skills and stay updated with the latest industry trends.  Inspire the team members to attend networking events, sign up for courses, or actively participate in social learning activities to create an atmosphere of support, respect, and growth. By promoting growth and development one can build a highly skilled and adaptable technical workforce.

Promote diversity and inclusion

Lead by example

Lead by example so that everyone works toward a goal with the same purpose. Walk the talk and guide others through your behavior and actions.  After all the purpose of leadership is to be the change you want to see in your organization.

Have reasonable and clear expectations

You will only be an effective leader if you have reasonable expectations from yourself and your team members. Having high expectations is okay, but ensure the expectations are attainable. Additionally, as humans, everyone makes mistakes (including yourself). So, give your team members that much-needed space to make mistakes and learn from them. This will promote mental health and actually make your workspace more productive and relaxed.

Excelling as a CTO is not all about technology; one should also have certain fundamental interpersonal and strategic-analytical capabilities. At the core, a CTO must develop a strong culture with the right vision and strategy to allow the company to thrive and sustain in the  competitive market.
